and how did iran end up with 50 dead but only 47 official cases?...whats going on there?

italy appears to have locked down a chunk of the north...but cant find patient zero soooo *shrugs* who knows how effective a lockdown will be

and how come it hasnt turned up in the netherlands yet?...everything travels through the netherlands

Zero cases in N. Korea. I’m sure that’s accurate, and not just a mandatory political report. /s

M y biggest concern is Italy.....it’s only Feb, but still a lot of tourists in and out over the last few weeks. 50,000 in quarantine now, and the Venice carnival  have been cancelled.

Not much worse? It has a fatality rate 20x higher than the flu, on par with the Spanish flu that killed 1.7% of the global population.  That’s why there’s an “overreaction”, officials don’t want a repeat of that little pandemic.

Yup....a s of now it has a very low mortality rate, mostly the very young and very old. But every transmission is an opportunity for it to mutate to something worse.

With the regular flu having a mortality rate of 0.1%, it still kills an average of 35k Americans every year, some years up to 80k if it’s particularly bad. That’s 700,000 to 1.6 million people in America alone if it were to take off here. Extrapolate that to your country’s population to get a scale of the potential problem.  It could end up being a very big deal if it’s not contained quickly enough, though hopefully it won’t.
